Este libro narra uno de esos casos, un caso sugerido a José Antonio Marina por Carmen Martín Gaite. Desde 1926 hasta el comienzo de la guerra civil hubo en Madrid una asociación de mujeres, el Lyceum Club Femenino, que «conspiraba para adelantar el reloj de España» y, posiblemente, fue la más brillante generación de mujeres de la historia de España. Mujeres como María de Maeztu, Victoria Kent o Hildegart pensaron que las fracturas provocadas por las ideologías políticas y religiosas podían superarse mediante la educación. Se trata, pues, de un ejercicio de justicia histórica, porque estas mujeres han sido olvidadas antes de ser conocidas. Los autores presentan una narración viva de un período histórico trascendental y convulso, del que emerge una pregunta: ¿y si hubiera triunfado su utopía educativa?
